14 februari 1942 – MAASTUNNEL INTO USE

Rotterdam – Without any fuss, the Maastunnel has officially been put into use in Rotterdam. It is the second fixed connection between Noord- and South Rotterdam. In the bombing of 1940 the Maastunnel has not been damaged. Many people see the coming down of the tunnel as an important symbol of reconstruction. The newspapers did not write about the opening of the tunnel.

14 februari 1996 – SCHIEDAM MILL WALVISCH BURNS OUT

Schiedam – The burnt out in Schiedam 1794 descending mill De Walvisch almost completely. Only the hull of the mill remains.

According to the newspaper, Mayor Scheres is "with tears in his eyes’ to watch. He is resolute: the mill is being rebuilt. In 1999 the mill can turn again. Three years later, it is even completely ready for use again.

14 februari 1966 - ALSO THE LAST REGION TRAM IS NO LONGER RIDING

Spijkenisse / Hellevoetsluis - The time of the regional tram is over. Op 14 februari 1966 tram line runs 13 for the last time between Spijkenisse and Hellevoetsluis. The trams were severely affected by the emerging bus transport, that was much more flexible and cheaper. In 1965 the Rotterdam-Oostvoorne line has already been discontinued.
