17 mei 1960 - PIRATE TRANSMITTER VERONICA STARTS BROADCASTING Scheveningen - After some test drives on different frequencies, the first sea transmitter in Dutch radio history starts up 17 mei 1960 with broadcast: Radio Veronica. The seagoing vessel is located a few kilometers from the coast of Scheveningen. Earlier attempts had been made to use Noordwijk as a berth, but that was not ideal. In the months after the start, Radio Veronica's popularity is growing rapidly. 17 mei 1993 - MAIJ-WEGGEN OVERRATED BY BETUWELIJN PROTEST IN GIESSENBURG Giessenburg - The protest against the Betuwe line in the Alblasserwaard reaches a climax, when Minister Maij-Weggen of Transport, Public Works and Water Management comes to give text and explanations to the local population.
