22 maart 1621 – HUGO THE GREAT ESCAPE FROM LOEVESTEIN IN BOOKBOX

Gorinchem – The Delft legal scholar Hugo de Groot, who is serving a life sentence in Loevestein Castle, manages to escape in a book chest. Due to the festivities, the coffin was not checked. In Gorinchem he changes his clothes and flees to Brabant.

22 maart 1979 – BRITISH AMBASSADOR KILLED IN COOLING BLOOD

The Hague - The British ambassador to the Netherlands is shot dead in front of his house in a quickly executed attack. His butler survive the attack not. The attack is not claimed, but police are quick to assume that the Northern Ireland IRA movement is behind the attack. Shortly before that, the IRA warned of an "attack on British targets on the European mainland."

22 maart 1994 – LAST LIGHTSHIP BROUGHT IN

Hellevoetsluis – Lightship De Noord-Hinder enters the harbor of Hellevoetsluis. It was the last remaining lightship in the Netherlands. The ship makes way for an immense buoy, equipped with electronics and solar panels. It is salient that the Noord-Hinder was also the first place (1859) where a lightship was placed.

22 maart 1998 – STOP VAN KOOTEN AND DE BIE ON TV

Den Haag – The Hague TV duo Kees van Kooten and Wim de Bie announce in their last broadcast of the season that they will stop their joint television appearances.. The two became known with characters such as Jacobse and Van Es ("free boys"), the Dirty Man and alderman Hekking. There is no arguing, say the two.
