23 april 1968 – FIRE ON THE PIER OF SCHEVENINGEN

Scheveningen – A fire on the Pier of Scheveningen caused damage to the tune of many million guilders. The fire started in a chip shop and spread along the main pier. In about 100 meters the pier is now damaged. No one was hurt.

23 april 1752 – WONDERFUL TABLES IN THE CHURCH NOW ALSO IN ALBLASSERWAARD

Papendrecht – In the mid-eighteenth century, a wave of special church services spread across the country. People shake and tremble during the church service, encouraged by the pastor. The strange services start in Nijkerk, but then travel over a large part of the Netherlands. In our region, Papendrecht is one of the first places to turn.

23 april 1995 - TEN THOUSANDS OF TURKS ARE ACTION AGAINST GOVERNMENT

Den Haag – Zo’n 25.000 Turks take action in The Hague against the Dutch government, because who has allowed that on 12 april 1995 the Kurdish Parliament in Exile was established in The Hague. The protesters even come from Germany and Belgium. The Greek embassy is also under attack during the protest march, which happens to be along the route.

23 april 2006 - HUNDREDS (CONTROVERSIAL) ARRESTS AFTER FEYENOORD - AJAX

Rotterdam – After Feyenoord - Ajax between the 600 en 800 Feyenoord supporters arrested on the viaduct over the railway, at the stadium. The supporters would have been arrested for not listening to the call from the police to leave the bridge. But according to the supporters, they had nowhere to go, because there were police on both sides of the bridge. The group of arrested supporters consisted partly of women, children and older people. They were held for hours in a parking garage of a police station.
