28 mei 1997 - PRESIDENT CLINTON VISITS ROTTERDAM, THE HAGUE AND TECHNOLOGY

Rotterdam – For the first time in history an American president visits during his reign Rotterdam. Bill Clinton came to the Netherlands to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Marshall Plan. Clinton also will visit The Hague and Delft. The measures have substantial; as highways are closed and there is a prohibition to leave port, during a memorial ceremony at the Nieuwe Maas.

 

28 mei 1971 – HAGUE SERVICE OFFICER GETS TWO YEARS CELL FOR LONG HAIR

Den Haag – The Hague two years Rinus Wehrmann cell gets because he refuses as a conscript to have cut his long hair. The conviction creates a wave of protests, because in Denmark, Sweden and Germany long hair is allowed in the military. The parliament will still agree to a change in the law and the punishment for Wehrmann largely withdrawn.

28 mei 1968 - ROTTERDAM PAINTER KEES VAN DONGEN DECEASED

Monte Carlo / Delfshaven - In his hometown of Monte Carlo dies Rotterdam artist Kees van Dongen. The 91-year-old portraitist lived much of his life in France, where he befriended artists like Matisse, Picasso en Modigliani.

 

28 mei 1995 - SUPPORTERS OF THE FIST OF STUDIOS RTL4

Rotterdam – Supporters of the hard core of FC Utrecht and Feyenoord are invited to the talk show RTL Love and Sorrow, to talk about love and football hooliganism. Just before the broadcast reports a group of Ajax is in the studio and penetrate the RTL building inside. The broadcast will be deleted, everyone goes outside and the brawl continues. The damage to the RTL property amounts to tens of thousands of guilders.
