30 november 1813 - KING WILLEM I ARRIVES IN THE NETHERLANDS Scheveningen – An English frigate deploys the Prince of Orange (the later King William I) off at the beach of Scheveningen. He had been invited by the Provisional Government to lead the country. A king would reduce anarchy, thought the board. 30 november 1978 – IKEA OPENS FIRST DUTCH STORE IN SLIEDRECHT Sliedrecht – Swedish furniture giant Ikea opens its first store in the Netherlands, in Sliedrecht. The Swedes have been in consultation with the Netherlands for years, to open a shop in Sliedrecht, but the middle class has been holding back since the early 1970s. read more: First IKEA store opens in Netherlands 30 november 2006 - FEYENOORD HOOLIGANS HOUSE IN NANCY Rotterdam – Feyenoord supporters who have traveled to Nancy cause problems in and around the stadium. The match is stopped, because the police are using tear gas. Feyenoord is angry, because tickets were sold to Rotterdammers anyway. UEFA initially punishes Feyenoord with a fine, but on appeal the club is excluded from European football. 30 november 2016 - RESIDENTIAL REFERENDUM ROTTERDAM BEACH LOW RISE Rotterdam – The housing referendum in Rotterdam does not achieve the turnout of 30 percent required for the referendum to be valid. Met 16,9 percent it is the lowest turnout ever at a poll. A large majority is opposed to the housing plan of Alderman Schneider. He wants to demolish thousands of cheap homes and build more expensive houses.
