05 november 1969 – CRIMINAL COMMISSION KNVB STANDS ON THE 'CASE OF HANEGEM'

Rotterdam / Utrecht - The entire criminal committee of the KNVB has resigned to the outcome of the "Van Hanengem case" that has held football-loving Netherlands in its grip for more than a week.. The Feijenoord midfielder was suspended for three games, after he went against N.E.C. has been sent from the field for after-kicking. The criminal committee gave him a three-game suspension (as a result of which he threatens to miss the European Cup I match against AC Milan), partly because he had already received a warning from the referee in the international match against Bulgaria. Feijenoord is appealing (also because the criminal commission refuses to view video images of the alleged violation) and Willem van Hanegem threatens to no longer want to play for Orange. Subsequently, the KNVB also appeals. The criminal committee therefore feels so downcast, that it resigns. On appeal, Van Hanegem is only fined.
