15 maart 1580 - WILLEM OF ORANGE DECLARED BIRD-FREE Delft – The Spanish king Philip II declares William of Orange outlawed. People who put the rebel leader to death can also count on it 25.000 crowns and a place in the peerage. In 1582 follows the first targeted attack on the "bird-free" Van Oranje, in Antwerp. The attack failed. It did hit two years later, Delft. Then Van Oranje is killed by Balthasar Gerards. 15 maart 1614 – ZOETERMEERSE MORE IS DRYED Zoetermeer – The States of Holland and West Friesland grant permission to drain a lake near Zoetermeer. Because of the peat extraction around the lake, flood risk was high in the area. It is the first major reclamation in the current South Holland. 15 maart 1848 - PARTY IN THE HAGUE DUE TO NEW CONSTITUTION Den Haag – Fearing similar protests as in Germany, France and Austria, King Willem II decides to write a new constitution. His ministers, who were not aware of this, submit their resignation. Then find a (organized) revelry place, in which especially the radical journalist Van Bevervoorde plays a leading role. The new constitution, so writes De Burger, is written by Leiden residents Luzac and Thorbecke. 15 maart 1971 - ATTACK ON OIL FACTORY IN THE BOTLEK Rotterdam – The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine commits in 1971 a terrorist attack in the field of oil company Gulf Oil in the Europoort. Nobody gets hurt, but the damage is large. Nearly a month after the attack be arrested several members of the Popular Front. It appears that they have placed their bomb in the wrong company. 15 maart 1996 - PLANE BUILDER FOKKER BANKRUPTCY Papendrecht – Aircraft builder Fokker is bankrupt. Voor het eerst sinds de Tweede Wereldoorlog staan er in Nederland in een keer 5 600 mensen op straat. Iedereen die nog in dienst is van Fokker wordt ontslagen.
